This project explores the influence of the U.S. Congress and the British Parliament on Anglo-American relations during the Cold War. It aims to highlight how legislative bodies shape foreign policy and bilateral ties through lobbying and political interactions.
This project is the first in-depth examination of the impact made by the U.S.
Congress and the British Parliament on Anglo-American relations, and the 'intermestic' dimension of foreign policy.
Using the relationship between the Carter administration and the Callaghan and Thatcher governments as case study, I will demonstrate how the transatlantic partnership was shaped by lobbyists in the House of Representatives, the Senate, and Westminster.
