This project examines the interactions of various humanitarian organizations in addressing the Congo question from 1875 to 1914. It aims to highlight the role of Africans in these transnational movements and their impact on global civil society, challenging Eurocentric perspectives.
Between 1875 and 1914, the Congo question" prompted an unusual concentration of liberal, Protestant, Catholic, Islamic and socialist organisations on humanitarian issues, as the international community confronted the problem of integrating Central Africa into the world order.
