This project explores the role of fungal secondary metabolites in soil ecosystems, focusing on their communication and competitive interactions. By employing advanced spectroscopy techniques, the research aims to identify these metabolites at a single-cell level, enhancing understanding of their ecological functions.
Multiple species of fungi co-exist in soils and play an important role in biogeochemical cycles.
To survive in a resource limited environment, they have developed the means for interspecific communication and warfare via an arsenal of secreted secondary metabolites.
