This project introduces Effectively Transparent Contacts (ETCs) for solar cells, which significantly reduce shading losses and enhance power output. The technology aims to improve the efficiency of solar energy production, particularly in III-V solar cells used in various applications.
Solar cells use metal contacts to convert sunlight into electricity.
Flat metal contacts typically cover 5% of the solar cell front surface, blocking some incoming sunlight from reaching the active area of the solar cell.
This shading loss is the largest single contributor to performance loss in 95% of commercial solar cells.
