This project aims to develop biodegradable poly(ionic liquids) by combining biodegradable polymer backbones with ionic liquids. It focuses on creating environmentally friendly materials for use in bioelectronic devices.
Poly(ionic liquid)s or PILs are expanding classical property profiles of polymers and stirring great interest in the development of diverse areas, as green chemistry, energy, biotechnology, materials or membrane science.
One of the common concerns of PILs consist of its biodegradability due their bioaccumulation and negative effects to the environment and the human body.
The main goal of this project is to develop the first generation of biodegradable PILs.
