This project investigates the role of party taxes in the funding of political parties across various democracies. It aims to understand how these taxes contribute to party income and the implications for political regulation and governance.
State funding for political parties is of critical importance for the viability of democratic governance in Europe and beyond where problematic funding practices have been discovered.
Also, the issue nourishes heated discussions about how far these (in principle societal) organisations should be regulated by the state, since, in this process, their societal support tends to decline.
