ISLANDPALECO focuses on understanding the historical impacts of human colonization on the ecosystems of the Canary Islands. By reconstructing past environments, the project aims to inform conservation strategies and enhance biodiversity management in these vulnerable island ecosystems.
Island ecosystems host a significant proportion of global biodiversity, but their rich insular biotas are also more vulnerable and less resistant to novel pressures than continental biotas.
