The iTERM project trains researchers in imaging and tissue engineering to develop artificial tissues for medical applications. It focuses on creating smart materials that mimic natural tissues and improving imaging techniques to monitor their performance in regenerative medicine.
The iTERM ITN (4 companies, 6 universities) will deliver 12 early stage researchers (ESR) and 1 experienced researcher (ER) trained in imaging, material science, and tissue engineering & regenerative medicine (TERM).
For the aging population in the EU donor material is often not available, and artificial tissue needs to be developed to replace and repair damaged tissues.
New smart materials have been developed and increasingly these implants are becoming analogous to the tissue they replace.
