This research project investigates the role of Italian female monasteries from 700 to 1100 in shaping societal structures and gender dynamics. It aims to explore the influence of religious women on political and cultural patterns in medieval Italy.
Recent history amply demonstrates the importance of religious belief as a fundamental historical force.
In studying early medieval Europe, we see how crucial it has been in the creation of our own identity, underlying our belief systems, cultural assumptions and core values, as well as our institutions.
