JaNet studies the Janissaries' influence on the economy and society in the 18th and 19th centuries, focusing on their role in trade and politics across the Mediterranean. It aims to redefine the historical understanding of Muslim communities' contributions to commerce and cultural exchange.
JaNet investigates the economic and sociopolitical role of the Janissaries in the 18th and early 19th centuries through their examination as a complex of interconnected networks in the ‘extended Mediterranean’ (including major Black Sea and Danubian ports).
