The project explores historical interactions between humans and European beavers during the transition from foraging to farming. By analyzing archaeological data, it aims to provide insights into past human-wildlife dynamics and inform current rewilding efforts.
The European beaver (Castor fiber) is central to rewilding schemes in north-west Europe today due to its role as a keystone species.
However, its engineering feats are also an increasing source of human-wildlife conflict.
