This project aims to map the functions of kinetochores, which are critical for chromosome segregation during cell division. By studying their structure and dynamics, the research seeks to understand how errors in this process can lead to cancer and genetic diseases.
Equal partition of the genetic material to the daughter cells in mitosis requires the accurate anchorage of the mother cell s chromosomes to spindle microtubules.
This process takes place at kinetochores, complex scaffolds containing ~100 different proteins.
