This project investigates how vegetation influences fire impacts on soil and hydrology, focusing on soil heating and ash. By analyzing different plant species and soils in Portugal and the USA, it aims to improve predictions of fire risks and inform land management practices.
Climate change increases the frequency and intensity of vegetation fires around the world.
Fire can considerably increase the landscape’s vulnerability to flooding and erosion, which is in part caused by fire-induced soil damage and hydrological changes.
