This project focuses on developing a cost-effective production process for NAI-107, a new antibiotic targeting multidrug-resistant infections. The aim is to optimize the fermentation process using the actinomycete Microbispora sp. to ensure high-quality yields for clinical use.
The focus of this proposal is to develop an economically viable production process for the lantibiotic NAI-107, a new antibiotic with the potential to treat life-threatening infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-positive pathogens.
NAI-107 is produced by fermentation of the actinomycete Microbispora sp., is undergoing formal toxicology studies and is expected to enter Phase I clinical trials in the second half of 2009.
