This project aims to map gene expression related to cognitive disorders using fruit flies as a model organism. By creating detailed 3D maps of gene activity, it seeks to uncover insights into neuronal function and potential treatment targets for these disorders.
Cognitive disorders are, due to their high frequency and lifelong costs, a leading medical and socio-economical problem world-wide.
Particularly for the large number of disorders characterized by intellectual disability, no therapy is available.
The search for effective treatment is unlikely to be successful until the pathology of these disorders is better understood.
