This project investigates legal concepts and practices in the early modern Persianate world, focusing on the experiences of ordinary users of law. It analyzes legal documents and their language to understand how Islamic law was adapted and applied across various cultural contexts.
This project will study concepts and practices of law across the early modern Persianate world, investigating how this specific cultural milieu structured understanding of law, legal expression and efforts to secure rights and justice.
