The AZO-LHCII project investigates how the protein structure of light-harvesting complex II in plants influences energy dissipation to prevent photodamage. By using azobenzene photoswitches and advanced spectroscopy techniques, it aims to explore the conformational changes that regulate energy transfer processes.
Plants can dissipate excess absorbed light energy as heat, by reversible switching of light-harvesting complex II (LHCII) into photoprotected quenched states, to prevent photodamage of photosynthetic apparatus.
