This project focuses on developing a new method of communication between cells using light signals. By creating synthetic and living cells that can communicate through light, the research aims to enhance our understanding of cellular interactions and enable new applications in bioengineering.
Engineering cell-to-cell communication is fundamental –yet highly challenging– for programming multicellular systems and interfacing living and biomimetic synthetic cells.
The problem lies in developing specific communication that is independent of existing chemical signaling and in connecting it to cell behavior.
