This project focuses on understanding the pathogenic potential of Listeria monocytogenes strains, a foodborne pathogen. It aims to develop rapid methods for assessing virulence differences among strains using advanced molecular techniques.
Although the rate of food contamination with Listeria monocytogenes is low, the mortality rate that is caused by this microorganism is high,and for this reason, it is placed on the top of the list of pathogens of concern for the public health and consequently for the food industry. L.monocytogenes has emerged as a food-borne pathogen the last decades, due to changes in food processing, consumer habits and thedemand for minimally processed foods.
