This project investigates the biosynthesis of very long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in fish, focusing on their role in critical physiological processes. It aims to enhance aquaculture practices by understanding how dietary strategies can influence fatty acid production in fish species.
Recent investigations in mammals have suggest that very long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (VLC-PUFAs) can play pivotal roles in physiological processes including phototransduction in retina, fertility and spermatogenesis in testis, and brain functioning.
