This project explores the evolution of numerical concepts through the study of ancient material counting technologies and their impact on human cognition. By comparing ancient Near Eastern methods with those from Oceania, it aims to generate insights into the development of numerical understanding.
Material counting technologies (MaCoTech) play a critical role in developing human numerical concepts like numbers, numerical relations, and arithmetical operations.
