MARGICANTUS explores musical marginalia found in early Middle Ages Latin manuscripts, focusing on tropes and sequences. By analyzing these overlooked entries, the project aims to enhance understanding of the development and dissemination of early Western music.
Largely overlooked, if not entirely unknown, about a thousand musical marginalia lie in the empty spaces of Latin non-musical manuscripts of the early Middle Ages, where they are unlikely to come to the attention of music scholars.
