The MARMIGSEX project explores how same-sex marriage serves as a migration pathway for queer Africans seeking to relocate to the Global North. It examines the implications of this migration on social mobility and the experiences of interracial same-sex couples from sub-Saharan Africa.
In an interconnected world, the introduction of same-sex marriage in many countries has also affected the lives of LGBTI persons outside their territories, even where homosexuality is illegal.
Marrying a (same-sex) citizen of these countries entails family migration rights for the non-citizen spouse.
