MASLAB investigates how social, religious, and political changes during the Islamic period influenced governance in Christian communities of the Near East. By analyzing a diverse range of historical documents, it aims to provide insights into the roles and networks of bishops amidst evolving socio-political landscapes.
By overcoming entrenched disciplinary divides and proposing a theoretical reframing, MASLAB explores how the social, religious and political changes of the Islamic period (mid. 7th-10th c.) fashioned episcopal governance, networks and power in the Christian communities of the Near East.
