The project explores the role of mesenchymal cells in the intestine, particularly during inflammation and tumorigenesis. It aims to understand how these cells contribute to intestinal homeostasis and develop therapeutic strategies for related diseases.
Mesenchymal cells (MCs) of the intestinal lamina propria refer to a variety of cell types, most commonly intestinal myofibroblasts, fibroblasts, pericytes, and mesenchymal stromal cells, which show many similarities in terms of origin, function and molecular markers.
