This project investigates how ceramides, a type of lipid, are transported from the endoplasmic reticulum to mitochondria to trigger cell death in cancer cells. By identifying proteins involved in this process, the research aims to enhance the effectiveness of cancer therapies by overcoming resistance mechanisms.
A principal cause of failure in the treatment of cancer is that cancer cells develop resistance to chemo- and radiotherapy, leading to recurrence of the disease or even death.
