The project aims to enhance melon crop production by using gene editing techniques to improve fruit quality and resistance to viruses. By implementing the CRISPR/Cas9 system, researchers will create non-transgenic melon varieties that are resistant to Cucumber mosaic virus and have delayed ripening.
Meeting with global food demand is one of the main priorities in the 2016-17 work programme of H2020.
