This research investigates how legumes manage the demand for essential metals like iron and copper in their root nodules, which are crucial for nitrogen fixation. It aims to understand the genetic and physiological adaptations that optimize metal distribution within the plant.
Legumes are the second major food source for humans and livestock, and crucial elements in any sustainable strategy of agriculture, since they are the main responsible of fixed nitrogen in natural ecosystems, and the largest supplier of nitrogen for agriculture.
