The MICRO-INSERT project explores the use of fungi for mineralizing wood, aiming to enhance its fire resistance and sustainability as a building material. This bioinspired approach seeks to create organic-inorganic hybrid materials without harmful chemicals.
Wood is the only renewable construction material and holds great promise for sustainable built environments of the future.
However, its combustibility is a major limitation.
