This project focuses on developing energy-efficient mining techniques by creating a model for understanding how heterogeneous rocks fracture. It aims to reduce energy consumption in the mining industry through innovative scientific approaches.
Mining is a huge industry that accounts for a very significant share of global energy consumption, with rock comminution being responsible for – at least – half of the total energy expenditure.
