The MicroRefugia project investigates how microclimates influence mammal behavior and community dynamics in response to climate change. By utilizing advanced sensors and machine learning, it aims to provide insights into conservation strategies that protect vulnerable species in fragmented habitats across Europe.
To address the accelerating crises of climate change and biodiversity loss, adaptive conservation strategies must account for organismal responses to microclimatic conditions, which are often strongly decoupled from the macroclimate variables traditionally used in ecological studies.
