The Minor Universality project explores how diverse narratives can create a shared understanding of humanity, challenging Western notions of universality. It examines how various cultural productions, including literature and social media, can extend local contexts to foster a broader sense of collective identity.
In her TED Talk 2009 the Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie made an argument on „the danger of a single story“.
She maintained that only plural narrations do justice to the complexity of humankind: „Stories can break the dignity of a people, but stories can also repair that broken dignity.“ Thus narrations have the power to produce a unifying experience of equal humanity.
