This project investigates Cyclophilin D as a target for selectively eliminating senescent cells, which are linked to ageing-related diseases. By utilizing CRISPR/Cas9 technology, the research aims to enhance understanding of mitochondrial functions and develop new therapeutic strategies for treating these diseases.
Ageing-related diseases are tightly correlated with the accumulation of senescent cells.
While the selective elimination of senescent cells is a primary therapeutical goal in the field, no clinically approved treatment currently exists, which constitutes an important research gap.
