This project investigates the unique experiences of deaf signers in international contexts, focusing on how their identities intersect with factors like ethnicity and nationality. Through ethnographic methods, it aims to explore their use of multiple languages and the impact of mobility on their social interactions.
Deaf signers’ international mobilities are rapidly increasing.
These mobilities are unique in a number of respects: while being biologically deaf leads to certain limitations and to discrimination and inequalities, being skilled in visual language also creates possibilities and opportunities for communication across national and linguistic borders.
