This project explores the interaction between mechanical oscillators and ultracold atomic ensembles to achieve quantum control over vibrations. By connecting these systems via laser light, it aims to develop new experimental techniques for quantum measurement and cooling of mechanical vibrations.
Atomic ensembles are routinely prepared and manipulated in the quantum regime using the powerful techniques of laser cooling and trapping.
