MORTI investigates the use and significance of coins in funerary practices from the 3rd to 11th centuries in Northern Italy. By analyzing archaeological data and personal traits of individuals buried with coins, the project aims to shed light on the evolution of post-classical beliefs and rituals.
Placing coins as grave offerings was one of the most common, and is among the most widely studied, funerary pagan practices in the Roman world.
