The MOSAICS project aims to enhance outcomes for adult cochlear implant users by understanding the variability in their auditory performance. It employs a multidisciplinary approach to investigate the interaction between cognitive processes and hearing technology.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) states that 6.1% of the world’s population – 466 million people – has disabling hearing loss, and approximately one-third of people over 65 years of age are affected by it.
For people with severe to profound hearing loss, a cochlear implant (CI) is the preferred treatment.
However, one of the hallmarks of adult CI outcomes is the enormous variability reported in auditory, speech and language functioning after implantation.
