This project investigates how animals balance investments in different sensory systems, focusing on the trade-offs between visual and olfactory capabilities in insects. It aims to uncover the factors influencing these sensory investments based on environmental conditions.
Sensory systems enable animals to perceive their worlds and make adaptive decisions for survival.
However, finding out about the world outside is energetically expensive: it involves complex sensory systems to collect the information, and dedicated neural systems to process it.
