This project aims to develop a new gas analyser that accurately measures the composition and contaminants in natural gas. By optimizing the gas processing stage, it seeks to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs for producers, ultimately saving billions annually.
Natural gas is the world’s fastest growing fossil fuel with global consumption expected to increase by 70%, from 4 tn m3 in 2014 to 7 tn by 2040.
Raw natural gas varies in composition and also contains undesirable impurities and contaminants, including water, CO2, nitrogen and hydrogen sulphide (H2S).
Unconventional sources such as shale gas have an even greater variance.
