This project investigates how double-strand breaks in DNA are repaired and how they can lead to chromosome translocations. By using a specialized cell system, the research explores the role of chromatin and specific repair factors in maintaining genomic stability and understanding DNA damage responses in living cells.
Double-strand breaks (DSBs) occur frequently in the genome by DNA damaging agents or during genome replication. DSBs are hazardous because interaction between DNA ends from different double strand breaks can produce tumorigenic chromosome translocations.
