NanoBiCar aims to transform bacterial infection treatment through innovative immunotherapy targeting both intracellular and extracellular bacteria. Using tuberculosis as a model, the project explores mRNA encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles to enhance immune responses without contributing to antibiotic resistance.
It is estimated that 20% of global mortality is associated with bacterial infections.
The current treatment is based on the use of antibiotics, but nonspecific effects, difficulty in reaching intracellular bacteria, and the generation of antimicrobial resistance limit its effectiveness.
