The FADER project developed autonomous algorithms for coordinating clusters of nanosatellites, enabling long-term operations with minimal fuel use. This technology allows for efficient satellite communication and positioning, making it possible to achieve the performance of larger satellites at a lower cost.
Coordinated operation of clusters of nanosatellites can potentially revolutionize the space sector; however, until recently, performing long-term satellite cluster flight was thought to be impractical, since existing orbital control methods required too much fuel.
