This project focuses on developing a drug candidate that mimics glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor to treat Parkinson's disease. It aims to enhance neuron survival and alleviate both motor and non-motor symptoms associated with the disease.
PD is the most common age-related neurodegenerative disorder that is characterized by four pathognomonic hallmarks: 1) motor and non-motor deficits; 2) progressive loss of nigrostriatal dopamine neurons; 3) pathological aggregates of the α-synuclein (α-syn) protein; 4) neuroinflammation and oxidative stress.
