NOBIAS aims to develop a new optical sensing technology to eliminate bias in biomarker measurements caused by skin color. By creating a multilayer model and advanced algorithms, it seeks to enhance the accuracy of devices like pulse oximeters for diverse populations.
During COVID-19, skin color bias in Optical Biomarkers Sensing (OBS) devices (e.g., pulse oximeter) was suspected to have contributed to the loss of lives in darkly pigmented people.
