The NONLIN project explores how non-linear interactions in the brain contribute to cognitive functions. By analyzing large-scale brain data, it aims to uncover the complex integration of information across brain regions, enhancing our understanding of cognition and its disorders.
The human brain's cognitive abilities arise from complex interactions among highly interconnected brain areas.
We have recently argued that interactions between oscillations at the same frequency (coherence-through-communication) cannot fully explain this coordination, due to the heterogeneity in cortical oscillation frequency and amplitude, as well as rapid cognitive state changes linked to aperiodic transients.
