NorseMap explores how the Viking past is perceived today and how public understanding has evolved. It aims to map the Viking legacy by utilizing crowdsourced data and adapting modern mapping technologies to analyze cultural memory and identity across various domains, including literature, tourism, and politics.
The modern understanding of the Vikings has developed over a thousand years to reflect the politics, identities and cultural memories of very different communities across Europe.
This shared history impacts on many aspects of contemporary society and is appropriated in increasingly diverse ways.
