This project explores the use of adult neural progenitor cells from the olfactory neuroepithelium for brain repair. It aims to develop techniques for amplifying and differentiating these cells for potential transplantation to restore damaged neurons and glial cells in the central nervous system.
Recently, the design of new brain repair strategies based on stem cell transplantation has received a tremendous amount of attention.This has been due to the increased incidence of neurodegenerative diseases and the absence of effective chemically based therapies.
