This project develops a biomimetic platform to study the nuclear pore complex, which regulates molecular transport in cells. By using solid-state nanopores and advanced optical techniques, it aims to investigate the structure and dynamics of proteins involved in nuclear transport at the single-molecule level.
The nuclear pore complex (NPC) is the gatekeeper of the nucleus that regulates the flow of all molecules across the nuclear envelope.
Remarkably, this ~40 nm wide pore is capable of efficient and fast transport while remaining highly selective.
