This project aims to combat the Mpox outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo by implementing a genomic surveillance system. It focuses on understanding the virus's presence in water sources to guide public health interventions and improve outbreak response strategies.
Mpox, a re-emerging viral zoonotic disease, has recently posed significant public health challenges in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The disease has led to thousands of suspected cases and hundreds of deaths, prompting the DRC Ministry of Health to declare a Public Health Emergency in April 2024.
