This project explores the development of the mirror neuron system in infants, investigating its role in understanding actions and emotions. By using various behavioral and physiological measures, it aims to determine how this system evolves from birth through experience and learning.
Evidence demonstrating the presence of mirror neurons in the adult human brain has led many researchers to suggest a fundamental role for the mirror neuron system (MNS) in human mentalizing behavior and social cognition.
Recent findings have also suggested strong relationships between MNS impairments and neurodevelopmental disorders in which mentalizing behavior is impaired.
